Water is very scarce in the mining area so the Miner’s tumble their "tailings"(everything they found that might be an opal)
in a cement mixer with water for approx. 12 hours. After the 12 hours have passed,
the Miners lay out everything on a table and search through all the “tailings” for opals and, hopefully, they find some!
  
This is the way the miners mark the trails.
It’s what helps visitors keep from getting lost in the barren lands that are mined. |
