Galatea
Galatea is a very Unique Designer Collection. Each and every piece of jewelry in the collection is hand created by the designer Chi Galatea Huynh.
Chi Galatea Huynh is inspired by nature when creating his work. His father was a talented and widely respected jeweler. He told Chi “If you want to be a GOOD Jeweler it takes Skill and Repetition…. To be a GREAT Jeweler also requires Patience, Dedication, Courage, and a special Love for your trade. Having all of these makes you worthy to work in my shop”; which is where Chi got his start in the Jewelry industry. He cleaned his fathers shop, apprenticed polishing and creating sample rings and now today he has Mastered setting Diamonds into his Pearls and is Creating Treasures that are Unique and absolutely Gorgeous.
Some of his creations consist of:
“Diamond in a Pearl” –The symbol of love!
This was Chi Galatea’s first collection. It was inspired by the grain of sand that irritates the oyster, creating the pearl. He thought it was very romantic that out of so much pain would come something truly beautiful. You see a pearl starts when a grain of sand or shell or some other irritant irritates the Oyster. To protect itself it coats this object in necar, making it smooth and less irritating. After continual coats over a long period of time this necar and irritant becomes a pearl. Pearl cultivators then take harvest the Pearls, polish them and see which ones are jewelry quality.
A pearl has to grow a minimum of four years to become a pearl, eight to become a pearl that Chi Galatea can work with, but not even all of the correctly aged pearls will be chosen for Jewelry design.
Chi then begins to carve his Pearls and set the Diamond in the pearl representing the grain of sand that creates the discomfort in the oyster, thus starting the process of creating the pearl.
That was the romance in this collection for him, because this collection started with his wedding gift to his wife. “It is easy to love in good times, but it takes courage to love through the discomforts of our lives.” Chi told his wife, much like a pearl! "
“the Galatea Pearl”
When Chi was carving into a Tahitian Pearl he accidentally carved too deep and cut into the pearls nucleus exposing its mother-of-pearl center, which inspired him to put gemstones; such as Citrine, Amethyst and Turquoise into the Black Lipped Oysters and let the pearl grow around them so that when he carved into its nucleus it would exposes the gemstone underneath! (Black Lip Oysters from Tahiti are the only Oysters that can grow Tahitian Pearls.) When the oysters where ready to harvest, Chi harvested the oysters he had seeded (with the Citrine, Amethyst, and Turquoise) and began carving his new inspiration the Mercy Pearl his new creation; “the Mercy Pearl”! -- Recently named and Recognized by G.I.A (the Gemological Institute of America) "the Galatea Pearl"!
“the Da Vinchi Cut”
"Be a mirror, absorb everything around you and still remain the same." -Leonardo Da Vinci
This is the quote from Leonardo Da Vinchi that inspired Chi to create his New Masterpiece, appropriately named “The Da Vinchi Cut”. It is a Gem Stone (such as a Colorless Diamond, Blue Topaz, Citrine, or any other light colored Stones) that Chi cuts into his very own cut; The Da Vinchi Cut, and sets a design or Darker Hued Gem Stones (Sapphire, Ruby, Amethyst, etc.) under it so that it disperses the Color of the Design through-out the Gem Stone. This effect completely changes the look of the Raised Stone; the Davinchi Cut Stone, and projects a different look depending on the angle or point of view. The uniqness of the Davinchi Cut then uses its ability to distribute colors, light or images into the Gem Stone to create an incomparable look! The Davinchi Cut Gem Stone absorbs the different colors from the design, or different Gem Stones set underneath it and change colors in different angles, giving a visible different point of view. Showing a very visible liveliness to the Gem Stone and a constant change in color, sometimes even texture; depending on what is set beneath it.
Upon finishing this creation Chi said “I hope you will enjoy this gem. Allow yourself to absorb all things around yet still remain the way you are.”
